In-EAR forum 2008
Växjö, Sverige d.15-16 marts 2008.
In-EAR Forum ønsker at fremme udveksling af kunstnerisk relevant musikteknologisk udviklingsarbejde mellem komponister og udviklere i de nordiske lande, der mødes over 2 dage.
Deltager du/I i et igangværende musikalsk udviklingsprojekt, du gerne vil præsentere eller har du/I en god ide til et nyt projekt, men ingen realiseringsramme. In-EAR Forum er måske stedet du kan møde en kommende partner. Projekter er typisk :
— Præsentationer af kompositioner med særlig udnyttelse af en musikteknologi, til belysning en teknologis kunstneriske relevans.
— Projektpræsentationer af software eller hardware som særligt henvender sig til kunstnerisk musikalsk produktion.
— Computerunderstøttet komposition, herunder generering af materiale til instrumental komposition eller klangsyntese.
— Live-elektronik og brug af musikteknologi i livesituationer, bl.a. realtids lydbehandling, lydgenerering, analyse, komposition.
— Nye interfaces til brug for livesituationen eller i studiet, herunder også nye tiltag for højtalerbaseret musik.
— Teorier eller redskaber til analyse af musikalsk struktur, harmonik/klang, rytme/metrum, og psykoakustik/kognition.
Færdige projekter, work-in-progress projekter, samt værksteds-præsentationer er alle velkomne, og vil blive organiseret sekventielt efter tema, så alle kan følge alle præsentationer. Præsentationer skal typisk vare 30 minutter.
Forumet giver også mulighed for en intern værkstedspræsentation. På en åben værkstedscene kan projekter som kræver særlige lyd- eller lysforhold præsenteres, hvis man f.eks. ønsker at vise hvordan en applikation fungerer i praksis. Formen vil være åben. Ønsket præsentationstid op til max 60 min. oplyses ved ansøgning.
Forumet vil iår forsøge at organisere en koncert der anvender ny teknologi kreativt, samt inviterer en gæsteforlæser. Begge dele er under planlægning og oplyses senere.
Som afslutning på In-EAR forum 2008 afholdes et evalueringsmøde, hvor forumets videre løbebane vil blive diskuteret.
Tilmelding : mail kort beskrivelse af projektet til adressen nedenfor. Besked om accept udsendes hurtigst muligt og senest per 15. februar 2008, sammen med nærmere oplysninger om rejse/ophold.
Forumet foregår i Växjö på Italienska Palatset i godt lokale med projektor, afspliningsudstyr og mindre scene. Indkvartering på hotel centralt i Växjö. Morgenmad er inkluderet i hotelprisen og Lunch købes på palatsets cafe.

In-EAR forum tilbyder deltagerne logi, mens deltagerne selv svarer for udgifter til rejse og kost. Dog kan man sammen med ansøgning om deltagelse søge om et rejsebidrag. Den forventede rejseudgift bedes da oplyst sammen med ansøgningen. Deltagere med den længste rejseafsand vil blive prioriteret.

ICMC 2008
International Computer Music Conference 2008 (död länk) har temat ROOTS/ROUTES och äger rum i Belfast 24 - 29 augusti. Det är inte försent att anmäla sig:

The deadline for all music and paper submissions to ICMC 2008 has been extended to Friday 8 February. All online submissions must be made by this date, and postal submissions must be date-stamped no later than this date, to be eligible for consideration. We welcome submissions in all areas of computer music. Detailed submission instructions and general information on the Conference can be found at www.icmc2008.net (broken link).

We encourage contributions of the following kinds: Papers (full papers, short papers, posters), Demos, Live Performances, Installations. Complete submission guidelines are available on the conference website. NIME 2008 will include a welcome concert on June 4th evening, focusing on novel music pieces by young composers using EyesWeb XMI. NIME 2008 will include the "Club NIME" events, tutorials. Special events organized in collaboration with the EU IST-ICT SAME project and the EU Culture 2007 CO-ME-DI-A project will precede and follow the official NIME 2008 program.

Tod Machover föreläser på KTH den 7 januari
Tod Machover, tonsättare och professor i Music and Media vid MIT Media Lab föreläser på KTH måndagen den 7 januari kl. 14.15. Föredragets rubrik är "Personal Opera: Music and Technology in the 21st Century". Plats: Sydvästra galleriet, KTH:s bibliotek, Osquars backe 31, Stockholm.

Varèsejubileum!
I år är det 125 år sedan Edgard Varèse (1883-1965) föddes. Jag hoppas fler än jag uppmärksammar detta jubileum!
För EAM är Varèse betydelsefull dels med sin idé om musik som organiserat ljud, dels med multimediaverket Poème électronique, som skapades i samarbete med Le Corbusier och Iannis Xenakis till Philips paviljong på världsutställningen i Bryssel 1958. Paviljongen ritades av Xenakis, som också bidrog med Concret PH, det första verket helt skapat med kornsyntes. Tyvärr förstördes paviljongen efter utställningen, men det finns ett par projekt som försöker återskapa verket i sin helhet, se Virtual Electronic Poem och Make it New.
En nyare bok om Varèse är Edgard Varèse : composer, sound sculptor, visionary (2006, red. Felix Meyer). Det är en utställningskatalog som innehåller många artiklar och ett rikt bildmaterial. Standardverket om Philipspaviljongen är Marc Treib: Space calculated in seconds : the Philips pavilion (1996, Princeton Univ. Press). Det finns en kort sammanfattning på nätet. Båda böckerna finns på Statens musikbibliotek.
Några av de bästa inspelningarna av Varèse musik finns på Varèse : the complete works (dir. Riccardo Chailly), men titeln "Complete works" är något missvisande, för det finns tre fullbordade och bevarade verk som kunde ha medtagits: Den första versionen av Density 21.5, Etude pour Espace samt La procession de Verges, elektroakustisk musik till ett avsnitt ur Thomas Bouchards film om Joan Miró, som var en av Varèse många konstnärsvänner.

Nya böcker
Jag skrev tidigare om Öyvind Fahlström-utställningen i Halmstad, som jag nyligen också besökte. Utställningen var intressant inte minst därför att den knöt samman Fahlströms tidiga bilder med hans senare. Jag passade på att införskaffa utställningskatalogen, Öyvind Fahlström : med världen som spelplan, red. Sophie Allgårdh, som nu finns i EMS bibliotek tillsammans med Fahlströms diktsamling Bord från 1966 (nytryck 1999, med efterord av Jörgen Gassilewski). Bord-dikterna "Det stora och det lilla" och "Morgon" finns dessutom i musikalisk tolkning på en CD i Ord&Bilds specialnummer om Fahlström, nr. 1-2 1998, som också finns i biblioteket.
Glöm förresten inte att vi gärna tar emot inköpsförslag till biblioteket! Synpunkter på bibliotekets inriktning mottas också - finns det något område vi bör satsa mer på?
